History of Hijama
One of the oldest treatments used in human history and the first who practiced Hijama are the ancient Egyptians and there are drawings on walls of temples documented by the pharaohs as a type of treatment, then hijama was introduced to the ancient Chinese, followed by Indians, reaching Romans, then to the Greeks and finally reached Arabs .

Methods and techniques of Hijama Cupping Therapy

Wet Cupping
In this technique cups are used on certain meridians on the body that is determined according to energy orbits, where each organ and each disease has certain points determined precisely, then blood is extracted and the amount of blood drawn varies according to the medical condition of each case.

Dry cupping
Cupping is mainly used on the sites of muscular pain without any incision or extracting of blood which is then left for 10 to 15 minutes.

Natural oils are used in this technique to treat muscle and joint pain. Where the therapist moves the Cups in different directions to reduce muscle tension and joint pain.

Post-cupping instructions
- It is preferable to refrain from eating fatty meals.
- Prevent any physical or sexual exertion for 24 hours to give opportunities to the body in activating blood circulation to the places that were targeted in the cupping session.
- Gentle bathing without body scrub for the next 24 hours until the recovery of cupping scars.

This type of cupping is based on placing cups on areas of the skin determined by the therapist. These areas in alternative medicine are called energy orbits. The cups are left for a period of time ranging from 5 to 20 minutes depending on the person's condition.

Pre-cupping precautions
Preferably cupping is best done in the mornings on an empty stomach. It is important that two or three hours from the session the client will be requested to refrain from eating fatty meals but not from liquids so they will not be dizzy and fatigue and keep the blood circulation working efficiently.

It is used by people who are healthy and do not suffer from many diseases to take the preventive benefit of cupping and maintain their general health for a longer period or reduce the attack and severity of some symptoms.
It is possible to conduct a monthly preventive session on the desirable days of cupping, which our Prophet referred to in the Hadith:
The Prophet(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him ) said: “the best thing that you invoke in it is the day of Seventeen, the day of nineteen, and the day of twenty-one .”
